Everything is proceeding as I had foreseen

After the first two games of the series, the Rays have taken two out of three from the Red Sox with Scott Kazmir on the mound tomorrow. I smell a sweep! Matt Garza continued his ascent to stardom tonight, throwing seven shutout innings with no earned runs. Grant Balfour looks like a future closer and maybe he’d be one now that Troy Percival is going on the DL, but Dan Wheeler will probably get that role. The hitting hero tonight was Dioner Navarro. Speaking of Dioner, he got my vote for catcher on the A.L. All Star team. He should make the team because Joe Mauer is really the only other A.L. catcher who’s having as good a year. Remember to vote online at MLB.com before the deadline by midnight Eastern time Wednesday night.

The Rays have never had more than one representative on the All Star team, and many years they only had one because of the rule that every team needed to have at least one. It was embarrassing when Lance Carter made the All Star team in 2003. Anyway, I am almost certain that this will be the year when the Rays finally have more than one representative. I’m predicting Navarro, Evan Longoria (who I had to write in on the ballot) and Scott Kazmir.

So after two games of the series, here are your updated standings. Aren’t they beautiful?

I know that most of you come here to read about baseball cards, and not the Rays, so I can assure you that more posts about cards are coming up!  However, if you do want to read more about the Rays, I highly recommend Jayson Stark’s “debate” on ESPN.com where he pretty much convinces everyone that the Rays are very much for real.  There’s a great ESPN the Magazine article to check out too.
