David Price promoted to Durham!August 10, 2008 at 12:17 am | Posted in Rays | Leave a comment
I spent a fun night with my wife at Durham Bulls Athletic Park tonight. It was our first time seeing Wade Davis pitch in Triple-A. Unfortunately, the Bulls lost 3-2 to Richmond in a close game. However, when I came home I was thrilled to read that David Price, the top pitching prospect in the Minor Leagues, has been promoted to Durham from Double-A Montgomery.
As you probably know, Price was the #1 overall pick in the 2007 MLB draft out of Vanderbilt University. His performance so far this hear has been outstanding.
In 6 starts at Single-A Vero Beach:
4-0, 1.82 ERA, 37 K and 7 BB in 34 2/3 IP.
In 9 starts at Double-A Montgomery
7-0, 1.89 ERA, 55 K and 16 BB in 57 IP.
It is widely rumored that Price will be with the Rays by the end of the season, and he could play a key role in the pennant race and the playoffs. I was just hoping that he’d make a brief stop in Durham so that I could see him in person. Now that my wish has come true, I will definitely be in attendance on Wednesday night when he makes his Triple-A debut.
I was lucky enough to pick up some David Price autographed cards before the value began to skyrocket. The prices of his cards has been rising steadily recently on eBay, and they’ll go up even more when he reaches the majors. Here’s my collection:
